The Oriental Jade Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about The Oriental Jade? It’s tucked right into this narrow stretch of Hang Trong Street where most tourists are rushing past to get to Hoan Kiem Lake – which, honestly, is exactly what you want. I mean, you’re literally a two-minute walk from the lake and all that chaos around Ngoc Son Temple, but the hotel sits on this quieter section where you can actually hear yourself think.
The building itself has this understated elegance that feels authentically Vietnamese rather than trying too hard to impress Western guests. When I walked into the lobby, there was this subtle scent of jasmine and something else I couldn’t quite place – maybe sandalwood? The staff remembered my name from check-in onwards, which sounds small but actually makes a huge difference when you’re navigating a new city. They didn’t just give me the usual tourist recommendations either; the concierge pointed me toward this incredible pho place on Hang Hanh Street that I never would’ve found otherwise. The rooms – well, let’s just say that 9.6 rating isn’t inflated. Everything felt purposeful, from the silk textiles to the way the bathroom was designed (spacious shower, good water pressure, and thank god, proper lighting for getting ready). The bed was one of those where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed whole.
What I really appreciated was how they handled the little things that can make or break a stay in Hanoi’s Old Quarter. The windows are properly soundproofed, so even though you’re in the heart of everything, you’re not listening to motorbikes at 6 AM unless you want to be. The air conditioning actually works – and quietly – which anyone who’s spent a summer in Vietnam will tell you is not a given. They’ve got this small elevator that somehow always seems to be waiting when you need it, probably because the building isn’t massive and overwhelming like some of those international chains. The breakfast setup was refreshingly local-focused; sure, they had the standard continental options, but they also did proper Vietnamese coffee and fresh spring rolls that actually tasted like something you’d get from a good street vendor. I ended up eating there most mornings instead of wandering around looking for something decent, which saved time for exploring. The location really is the sweet spot – close enough to walk to Dong Xuan Market or catch a cab to the Temple of Literature without the hassle, but far enough from the main backpacker strip that you’re not dealing with constant noise and crowds. If you’re someone who wants to experience Hanoi’s energy but also needs a proper retreat at the end of the day, this place gets the balance right.

Lesley from United States – 4 June 2025 (10/10)
Outstanding hotel – safe, clean with wonderful helpful staff. We particularly liked the easy communication via WhatsApp. We were able to book an amazing cruise in HaLong Boat, really high end. Room was simple by US standards but very clean and staff, breakfast and general helpfulness was OUTSTANDING. Don’t hesitate in booking this hotel, they are professional in all they do. Miss Hannah was so kind to organize taxis for us, she went above and beyond.
What could be improved: Nothing!Paula from United States – 3 June 2025 (10/10)
The staff were exceptionally helpful and welcoming! The hotel is perfectly located — right in the center but on a quieter, upscale street just 1–2 blocks from all the main attractions. The rooftop bar and pool provided a great escape from the busy city. Rooms were nice and Breakfast was great.

First and foremost the attention to detail by the staff is first class. As an avid world traveler I believe this is the best hotel in the old quarter. We add special requests and the staff led by Brian went over and beyond. Don’t hesitate to book – a true 5 star hotel.
What could be improved: Nothing. We stayed at 3 hotels in Hanoi and this was by far the best.Kristen from United States – 31 May 2025 (10/10)
