The Silk Boutique Hotel & Spa – Old Quarter City Center Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in my fair share of Old Quarter hotels, and honestly? Most of them are cramped converted shophouses where you can hear your neighbor’s entire phone conversation. The Silk Boutique is different though – and I mean genuinely different, not just marketing different.

First thing you notice walking up to 15E Phố Hàng Cân is how they’ve actually managed to create space in what’s basically a narrow alley. The entrance feels surprisingly open, which is no small feat when you’re wedged between a pho joint and someone’s motorbike repair shop. Inside, there’s this immediate sense of calm that’s pretty remarkable considering you’re literally in the heart of the chaos. The lobby smells like lemongrass and something floral – not that artificial hotel scent, but something more subtle. Check-in was smooth (I arrived around 2 PM on a Thursday, so maybe I got lucky), and the staff actually remembered my name the next morning, which… you know what, that doesn’t happen often.

The rooms are where this place really shines. I had one facing the street – yeah, there’s some noise from the motorbikes, especially in the morning around 7 AM when everyone’s heading to work, but honestly it’s part of the Old Quarter experience. You want dead silence, stay out in Ba Dinh. The bed was properly comfortable, and they’ve got this nice touch where they leave actual Vietnamese tea in the room, not those generic international brands. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure (crucial after walking around Hanoi all day). What I really appreciated was the little seating area by the window – perfect for morning coffee while watching the street vendors set up their stalls. The spa downstairs is small but legit; I tried their foot massage after a particularly brutal day of temple-hopping and it was exactly what I needed. They use local techniques, not some watered-down tourist version.

Here’s the thing about the location – you’re a two-minute walk from Hoan Kiem Lake, which means you’re in the absolute center of everything, but Phố Hàng Cân itself is just quiet enough that you’re not drowning in tourist groups at 6 AM. You can walk to the weekend night market in literally three minutes, and there’s a fantastic bun cha place right around the corner on Hang Manh that most visitors never find. The hotel staff will point you toward the obvious spots like Ngoc Son Temple, but ask them about good local restaurants and they actually know what they’re talking about. Parking’s impossible (as expected), but if you’re using Grab or walking everywhere like most people, that’s irrelevant. During Tet holiday it gets pretty hectic in this area, but honestly, where doesn’t it? The 8.6 rating feels about right – it’s solid, well-run, and genuinely comfortable without trying too hard to be something it’s not. For a four-star in this location, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for.

  • Julienne from Philippines – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

It’s one of the best accommodation you could find around Old Quarter. The room was perfect for our group. They made sure each day our room is cleaned after the whole day of us being outside exploring Hanoi.

What could be improved: Everything about the property is wonderful. From cleanliness of the room, to having an elevator, they have the friendliest and accommodating staff. Aside from a nice breakfast buffet, we even got on-the-go breakfast (water, sandwich and banana) when we had to leave early for our Ninh Binh tour.

  • Joshua from United Kingdom – 10 May 2025 (9/10)

Staff greeted us before we even set foot on property. Took our bags and were incredibly attentive. We got there a little early but they kindly didn't charge us. Staff were helpful, room was great. Great Location

What could be improved: Couldn't think of much to be honest.

  • Ridgely from Spain – 29 April 2025 (9/10)

The place was conveniently located in the centre of Hanoi near all lovely bars and shops. The room was big enough for two people, the shower had nice warm water and the breakfast was adequate. The staff were very friendly and polite
